It was totally awesome! What a great feeling to go to Spring Training this year and see them play several times, then go to Opening Day and then games throughout the season and reach the conclusion that it did!
It seemed like a long time ago my wife and I ventured to Jupiter, Florida to see them play a few games and make analysis. Here is my ST analysis which included how well Allen Craig and David Freese were hitting the ball.
Opening day and Social Media days were really well organized from an organization that exudes a lot of class. But let;’s talk about the WORLD SERIES.
Did I ever have doubts? Of course I did. But according to my posts here on Cardinals GM, I stated the Cardinals were not out of it until they were mathematically eliminated. How true.
The Cardinals winning series was most impressive due to the fact that Matt Holliday and Albert Pujols to a lesser degree were not the ones that made it happen. As seen, it was David Freese, Allen Craig, Yadier Molina and of course Chris Carpenter.
Let’s rest for awhile. You deserve it Cardinals fans.
We have 158 days until opening day next year.

Now that the World Series is ALMOST over the Cardinals must quickly turn their attention to the five day window they have to exclusively negotiate a contract for Albert Pujols. It appears unlikely that Pujols will do anything but go to Free Agency. This is what he has earned for the past 10 years and there is no reason he shouldn’t check out the market.
As a Cardinals fan, if he goes, he goes. But my big hope is that doesn’t remain in the National League Central. My feeling is if he goes elsewhere, he goes to Angels, Nationals or Marlins but many teams are wild cards. Many say the Red Sox and Yankees won’t need him but they will all take a look at him and re-arrange their players where ever needed.
As far as the Cardinals in the World Series here is my official statement on Facebook.
Win or lose I am a Cardinals fan and feel good about getting to the postseason and especially to the World Series…. fans of other teams would love to trade places with us.

World Series Eve is more difficult than Christmas Eve was when I was a kid.
Michelle Obama will be in attendance and has asked the Secret Service to lock down all CRUZ Missiles.
I used to like Nolan Ryan, until he felt compelled to give his opinion on the Series.
Arthur Rhodes has to be grinning to be released by Texas and then get to face them for World Series 2011.
Every game the Cardinals win makes me believe Albert Pujols will stay in St Louis.
Let’s get this party started!!

The Cardinals are in the World Series!
As you see from my last post I believe John Mozeliak deserves a ton of credit for re-making the team when it needed it.
But something sparked, something cause the flames to burn brighter. What could that be? It could be a myriad of things but I am going to choose the mouth of Nyjer Morgan as a strong impetus to get the Cardinals where they are today.
Let’s review:
Morgan tweeted on Sept. 7 after Milwaukee and Zack Greinke lost to Chris Carpenter, 2-0, in St. Louis, “We’re still in 1st and I hope those crying birds enjoy watching the Crew in the Playoffs!!!
At the same time, in reference to Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, who was upset with Morgan’s antics that Sept. 7 night in St. Louis, Morgan tweeted, “Alberta couldn’t see Plush if she had her gloves on!!! What was she thinking running after Plush!!! She never been in the ring!!!
As I said there are many things that got the Cardinals here. the new players and a manager that found his stroke are only a few of them, but motivation from a big mouth goes a long way.
Go Cardinals!

Let’s look at what the fans and bloggers are saying at some of the teams that already in the off-season.
Over at Crashburn Alley they are discussing whether the Phillies hitters were too impatient in the series with the Cardinals…. This response comes from a fan named Richard:
Phils had the second lowest swing % in the NL, and second lowest zone swing %. They take too much, not too little. Had the lowest zone % in the NL. They were middle of the pack in Pitches/PA. Had the second lowest K%, but the second lowest BABIP. This means they put a lot of balls in play but didn’t get much out of it, though they aren’t at the extremes for the batted ball types. Basically, they saw the fewest strikes, but when they hit them they didn’t hit for a high BA.
Ben at Capitol Avenue Club believes the Braves don’t need any new relievers for next year.
The biggest strength the Braves had all year ended up letting the team down toward the final weeks of the season, but that should not cause a widespread worry about that specific strength going forward. The Braves have a surplus of young and impressive bullpen arms, which is exactly what a team with a mid-level payroll wants out of that area. Spending on bullpen arms is very risky, so having cost controlled relievers limits the amount of risk in that area and allows the front office to spend that money elsewhere.
Mike Stanton should remain a Marlin. Those are the thoughts of JD at Beyond the Boxscore.
Despite mounting uncertainty surrounding the immediate financial future of Florida Miami Marlins, the organization should lock up their slugging right fielder, Giancarlo Cruz Michael Stanton. To begin 2012, the Marlins will be entering a new stadium without any degree of certainty in their projected box office receipts. Rather than spend hordes of money in free agency, the Marlins should reaffirm their commitment to their cyclical fire sale strategy. Even with such concerns looming, the Marlins should make it a priority secure Stanton’s services, until it’s too late.
U.S.S. Mariner blogger, Dave, has some ideas that won’t break the bank for the Mariners.
In this post, I’ll lay out suggestions for guys who I would target as potential acquisitions to fill needs on the roster who won’t command big paydays in 2012. They show up by order of preference, so I like the guys at the top more than at the bottom. Without further ado…..
Assessing the Nationals Managerial Options is the blog thought at District on Deck from Aaron.
Officially speaking, the Nationals have until the end of October to announce the fate of Manager Davey Johnson. It has been widely believed that the soon-to-be 69 year old will be brought back for another season to lead this team, but to date there have not been any true indications offered up by anyone within the organization’s front office. There also hasn’t been much talk since the MLB Playoffs began, which perhaps is by design.
That’s all for now while we wait for the outcome of Game 5 of the NLCS.

All he did was admit his mistake that he overvalued offense over defense when he traded Brendan Ryan away and slotted Ryan Theriot. Then he did something about this mistake by getting Furcal to play the position to add a glove with some pop.
He admitted the bullpen was not what they thought it would be and allowed Franklin, Miller, Tallet and a myriad of others to quit manning the late innings and brought in Dotel, Rzcep, Rhodes and gave the ball to Motte to finish.
He went and got another starters because Westbrook was not getting the job done nor was McClellan so he added Edwin Jackson to the fold and he helped pitch us into contention.
Before you say that is what a GM is supposed to do, I agree.
Problem is, many won’t make admissions that they made a mistake IN MID-SEASON. They wait until the season is lost and then begin to re-assemble parts.
Nice job, John Mozeliak, you deserves consideration for GM of the Year!
