Cards sign Ex-Cub Matt Clement
I called it! I said on December 30th this was a good possibility.
Signing Matt Clement to a one year, incentive laden contract is not a bad deal. Matt is one game over .500 and has spent the majority of his career in the National League.
Now we sign one more pitcher and the staff is ready.
Towers or Weaver? Which will it be?
I say WeavDog returns to the staff.

One more pitcher?
The staff already is Wainwright, Pineiro, Clement, Looper, Mulder with Reyes on the outside. I know Mulder may not be ready to go first thing, but where would you put another pitcher?
Mulder a maybe and not for a bit of time. Reyes is possibly being shipped. Those names you posted as starters are not world beaters, that is for sure.
Oh, I grant you, there are some ifs in there, but I’m not sure anyone else would be any more solid.
I’d personally love to see them ship Looper instead of Reyes, but I think the days of those kind of deals are about done.
And remember, Carpenter comes back this year as well. When, I don’t know (probably very late), but I don’t expect they’ll try to fill up the rotation too much because of that.
I agree we need another starter but I don’t think we need someone of the Weaver/Towers skill level. We need to swing a trade for Blanton or Bedard or someone along those lines. If we can’t get someone like that, then go in with what we have at this point.
