Let’s just say the rumors are true.
The Cardinals and Pirates are reportedly discussing some sort of deal. It is said to include Jason Bay, Matt Morris and Jack Wilson and then Chris Duncan, Anthony Reyes, Brad Thompson and a semi top prospect.
I wouldn’t do it. Let’s look at it.
Bay/Duncan… really much difference. Bay is 3 years older and quite a bit more expensive. He had a down year in 2007. Better defensive player. Don’t make the trade.
We probably need to eat all of Matt Morris contract and his is mucho dollars over Reyes and Thompson. Don’t make the trade.
Then the Jack Wilson part. He would need to play everyday. That makes the bench for the Cardinals a very expensive thing. (Izturis,Ryan,Miles, Kennedy).
Let’s wait and spend the money saved at a more opportune time.

I think I’d trade Bay for Duncan–defense plus Bay’s a bit more established but still very young.
I don’t think I’d do the rest of the deal, though.
I suppose if they can pick and choose that would work BUT the whole package is probably a NO DEAL.
[...] over at CardinalsGM really broke this deal down. I agree with him, if it’s Duncan, Thompson and Reyes going for Bay, Morris and Wilson, you [...]
Yeah, I don’t particularly care for the deal. I do like the idea of bringing Matty Mo back but only as a 4 or 5 guy. He’s an innings eater and will give me someone to boo again. I’ve been missing that since Ray Lankford and Marquis left town and it would be nice to have a villain on the team again.
Anyway, as you mentioned, Bay isn’t that much of an upgrade over Duncan and he’s 3 years older and more expensive. Wilson had like one fluke year if memory serves and the Cards have been in love with him ever since. We’ve already got WAY too many infielders so if you’re trading young pitching for IF help, I’m going to go ballistic.
Bottom line, this is not the trade we need. If it were Duncan and Reyes for Morris and Bay, I might be talked into it but for the most part I’d say lets keep the youth we have.
i think that its a good trade
you guys proved some good points but if u think about it…
bay should be better offensively and defensively than Duncan even if he is older and more money
we need Morris even if u say we don’t
Morris’s best years were with STL and he went 10-11 with a 4.8 ERA with Pittsburgh
Wilson is better defensively and offensively that any SS we have now
our lineup would be just as good as anyone in the central or for that matter of fact in the National League
C- Molina
1b- Pujols
2b- Kennedy/ Ryan
3b- Glaus
SS- Wilson
LF- Bay
