De Leon

Victor De Leon – Projected to Be Assigned Class A Peoria Chiefs

De Leon is a right-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic that started 10 games for Johnson City. He ended the season with a 3-0 record with 44 innings pitched. The 6’2”, 190 lb’er walked only 20 while fanning 42. He held opponents to a .236 batting average with a 3.25 ERA.  (Full stats here)

De Leon throws his fastball at 94-98 MPH with a herky-jerky motion to the plate. He will throw a curveball from time-to-time that is clocked near 80 MPH. His change-up is an 85 MPH pitch that has the hitters guessing. Command issues are a part of his pitching development where he goes in stretches trying to find the plate.

It is early in his pitching career to see if he is major league material and also whether his future is as a starter or reliever. For now, we have Victor De Leon projected to start the 2013 season with the Peoria Chiefs.
