Cardinals Walk-Off; Scruggs Walk-Off; Chambers 3-hits; Carlos Martinez Sharp for Cardinal Affiliates

The St. Louis Cardinals were able to string a few hits together off of Heath Bell in the 9th inning to come-from-behind and win. Rafael Furcal hit a two-run single with two outs in the ninth to give the Cardinals a 5-4 walk-off win over the Marlins at Busch Stadium in the final game before the All-Star break.

Memphis was defeated 2-0 by Nashville as the Redbirds manage only four hits on the evening and 3 of them came from Adron Chambers, including a triple to move his average to .326 on the season.    BOX SCORE

Springfield won 2-1 in the 11th inning by Xavier Scruggs 15th home run of the season. He also had 3 hits in the game. Carlos Martinez (2.93 ERA) pitched 6 innings allowing 4 hits and one run. BOX SCORE

Johnson City won 6-2 over Elizabethton as Jeremy Schafer and Ronard Castillo each banged out 3 hits in the win. BOX SCORE

Palm Beach Cardinals defeated Charlotte 5-3 on two RBI’s from shortstop Ronny Gil and a good pitching performance from Scott Schneider with 6 innings and no runs allowed for his first victory. BOX SCORE

The Quad Cities River Bandits were shutout 5-0. Willy Paulino saw his record dip to 2-7 on the year as he last only 4 innings and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits. BOX SCORE

Batavia Muckdogs defeated Lowell 4-2 as shortstop Alex Mejia got two hits and third baseman Patrick Wisdom drove in 2 RBI’s. Right-hander from Eckerd College, Joe Cuda, had a stellar performance with 5 innings pitched and allowed no runs with 2 hits while fanning five. BOX SCORE
