Everything that goes on in the Cardinals that might be construed as negative the fans tend to jump on Genreal Manager John Mozeliak and begin berating him. When you look at the big picture you will find he has done a marvelous job in his position.
The latest accolade comes in signing Carlos Martinez for 5 years and $51 million. You may say he had to but no he didn’t. He found the amount that CMart is happy with. This was the LARGEST 1st year eligible pitcher signing to date. The Cardinals have inked their ace.
The 25 year old right handed pitcher from the Dominican lead the team in the rotation. In 2016, he was 16-9 with a 3.04 ERA and threw 195.1 innings. He will be joined in the rotation by Lance Lynn, Adam Wainwright and possibly a combo of Alex Reyes, Mike Leake, Michael Wacha, Luke Weaver and more to fill out the rotation.
Carlos Martinez figures to lead the Cardinals’ rotation for many years to come.
Good move, GM John Mozeliak!
