I will also add that I would hate to see what kind of defense Bay would be playing at the end of a 5 year deal with his knee history.

You very well may be right about Bay wanting a 5 year deal at 18 million per year and Holliday wanting closer to 20 million. It’s just so hard to predict free agent contracts because even if 29 general managers believe that Holliday is worth 18 million a year, all it takes is one to change all of that. If Bay was wanting 5/90 and Holliday was wanting something like 6/120, the basic premise of my above article would stay the same. Holliday would still be producing surplus value, while Bay probably wouldn’t be worth the 18 million per year, so Holliday would still be the better value even though at the higher cost.

That’s a great question, especially with that Pujols fellow entering his final two years. Do they really want to tie up 40-45 percent of the payroll in two players?

I am writing that Bay is angling for a $18 mil per yr and a 5 year contract. Now hat he wants and gets very likely are two different things.
Holliday will command more than Bay and prob would rake in closer to $20mil per year.

How can anyone be worth that kind of money?

(But I don’t wnant to turn into the Pirates).
