I used to love doubleheaders. Two games for the price of one. Nowadays the owners are after every buck they can get.

which brings me to my point. Although this is not a traditional DoubleHeader, it is a split one and it is “contingent”.

From Joe Strauss of the Post Dispatch:

The Cardinals remain hopeful that the weather holds for Monday’s 3:15 p.m. season opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game is an official sellout already with a sprinkling of standing room seats still available.

But with a wintry mix forecast for St. Louis’ high athletic holiday, the Cardinals have received tentative approval from Major League Baseball and the Players Association to stage an unusual Tuesday split-doubleheader should Monday’s opener be postponed.

This year’s schedule allows only one off day before May 11.
