Looking at Post-Season Awards for National League
Here is my ballot for the National League Awards. The Baseball Bloggers Alliance always ask their bloggers to fill out their ballot for the league that their blog represents. Since mine is CardinalsGM, I am filling out for the National League.
Connie Mack Award (manager of the year)
Davey Johnson– Say what you want or what you will about old-time managers but they have a knack of getting the job done. Johnson may have progressed his team a year or two sooner than many anticipated.
Willie Mays Award (rookie of the year)
Bryce Harper– This young man didn’t disappoint fans with a fine season. Harper hit .270 with 22 home runs and 59 RBI’s along with 18 stolen bases. He also played a terrific outfield.
Goose Gossage Award (top reliever)
Jason Motte– He finishes the year with 42 saves, 7 blown saves, a 2.75 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and an 86:17 K:BB ratio. He recorded ALL the St. Louis Cardinals saves for the 2012 regular season.
Walter Johnson Award (Cy Young)
Gio Gonzalez– A new team didn’t deter Gonzalez from racking up the numbers. • 1st in NL in W (21)
• 4th in NL in SO (207)
• 6th in NL in BB (76)
• 6th in NL in ERA (2.89)
• 8th in NL in WHIP (1.13)
• 6th in NL in W% (.724)
• 4th in NL in CG (2)
Stan Musial Award (MVP)
Ryan Braun– Braun didn’t allow the negative stuff from his off-season creep into his game. He finished the 2012 season with 30 stolen bases, 41 home runs, 12 RBI’s and a .319 batting average. He amassed 356 total bases for the season.
