The Johnson City Cardinals scored 11 runs in the middle 4 innings to defeat Kingsport 11-3 as they banged out 13 hits. The hit parade was led by Bruce Caldwell with two hits and a home run and three RBI’s by Carson Kelly. Lance Jeffries, Ronald Castillo and Ildemaro Vargas each collected two hits on the evening.  Stalyn Lopez hurled five innings and allowed five hits and fanned seven. He was followed to the mound by Michael Aldrete, Samuel Tuivailala, Jacob Booden and Joseph Donofrio. Kingsport will be in town again Sunday for the second of a three-game series. BOX SCORE

Shelby Miller had a nice outing for the Memphis Redbirds but did not figure in the decision as he threw five innings and gave up one hit with four strikeouts in the game to be followed by a parade of pitchers to the mound. Sam Freeman got the win and Eduardo Sanchez notched the save.  Shane Robinson went 3-for-3 to lead the offense as Memphis defeated Round Rock 5-3. BOX SCORE

Carlos Martinez improved to 2-2 for the AA Springfield Cardinals as they won 5-1. Martinez hurled six innings and allowed two hits and one run. Oscar Taveras had a perfect night at the plate as he went 3-for-3 and Chris Swauger belted his 11th home run of the season. BOX SCORE

Palm Beach Cardinals defeated the Daytona Cubs 9-6 last night as Tyler Rahmatulla provided the offense with 3 hits including a triple and Rainel Rosario swatted a home run in the 2nd inning. Shortstop Ronny Gil had 3 doubles in the game. BOX SCORE

The Quad Cities River Bandits lost 9-3 to the Great Lakes Loons as catcher Casey Rasmus had three hits in the game to provide a bit of offense. Dail Villanueva only last 2.1 innings and took the loss and drop to 5-5 on the season. BOX SCORE

Alex Mejia had three hits as the Batavia Muckdogs defeated Aberdeen 2-1. Tyler Melling went 6.1 innings from the mound and gave up the lone run to pick up the win. The bullpen shut them out the rest of the way as Yunier Castillo and Lee Stoppelman each received a hold and Brandon Creath recorded the save. BOX SCORE
