St. Louis Cardinals

Reds Win Series Over Cardinals

I had to check my TV to see if I was watching a taped game from last year as the Cardinal bats were completely silent facing an average pitcher. It was only a matter of time for Carlos Martinez to get rocked. He wasn’t particularly sharp in the game as he wasn’t walking batter much but did hit two batters.

The offense was just putrid as they faced Scott Feldman who is pretty much a journeyman type pitcher. He kept the batters swinging at pitches out of the zone for the most part.

The Cardinals record falls to 2-4 as they are shutout 8-0 in this game.

Monday’s Game: The Cardinals will travel to play the Washington Nationals with Adam Wainwright facing Tanner Roark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 ET.

Triple-A

Pham and Voit Lead the Offense

The Memphis Redbirds banged out 16 hits led by outfielder Tommy Pham who was 4-for-6 with a home run and first baseman Luke Voit at 4-for-5 and a homer. Wisdom, DeJong and Kelly each got 2 hits in the 8-4 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes.

Mike Mayers started on the hill for Memphis and pitched five innings and allowed nine hits with three earned runs while walking two and striking out three batters. Zach Phillips came on and threw two perfect innings and then Josh Lucas pitched one inning allowing just one hit. Ryan Sherriff finished the game allowing three hits and one earned run to cap off the victory. Memphis has a 3-1 record in the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division

Next Game: Josh Zeid, whom the Cardinals signed after the WBC for team Israel, will get the start in New Orleans with 7PM CT start.

Double-A

Cardinals Win with a Martini

Nick Martini went 2-for-5 and drove in 2 runs to help Springfield top Midland 6-3 on Sunday. Alex Mejias added two hits as the Cardinals banged out 11 total hits. Dakota Hudson was the starter and he fanned 7 batters in 5.2 innings of work along with tewo earned runs. Blake McKnight picked up the win in relief with 2.1 innings of work as he allowed 2 hits and struck out two. Corey Baker finished the game in the 9th inning without giving up any hits.

Next Game: The Cardinals continue in Midland for a 6:30 CT game with Josh Pearce on the mound facing Brandon Mann (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

High-A

Two Errors in 9th Inning Prove Costly

Leobaldo Pina made two crucial errors in the 9th to allow St. Lucie to take away a 6-3 win. Ryan Helsley started for Palm Beach and threw 5 scoreless innings while striking out 6 batters. Juan Perez came on and allowed one run in one inning and was followed by two scoreless innings from Jacob Evans. Ross Vance was the recipient of poor fielding in the 9th and registered the loss.

The scoring comes from Magneuris Sierra going 2-for-5 including a double and Darren Serafina also getting two hit in five plate appearance. The team only had seven total hits in the loss. Palm Beach evens its record at 2-2 in the Florida State League Southern.

Next Game: Jake Woodford will be given the ball for the road start as he faces Eduar Lopez of the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Game time is 6:35 ET.

Low-A

Chiefs Offense Falters

The Chiefs only managed 7 hits in the game as Danny Hudzinga was 2-for-4 and Dylan Carlson doubled in the game. Brian O’Keefe managed the only RBI for Peoria. Ian Oxnevad struggled on the mound as he allowed 5 hits in 4.1 innings of work and also 4 earned runs. Spencer Trayner followed him to the hill and threw 1.2 innings of scoreless ball as he yielded 2 hits during his work. Eric Carter and Greg Tomchick finished the pitching with 3 scoreless of inning of work.

Next Game: The Chiefs continue at Dozer Park as the Quad Cities Bandits come to town. Steven Farinaro will start for the Chiefs and Forrest Whitley for the Astros affiliate. Game time is 6:30 PM CT
