Cardinals GM

A look at the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team from a GM perspective.

The Cardinals Win Three in a Row, However…..

The winning streak of 3 games against the Pirates was really nice. I will take a win over a loss anytime. With that being said, it isn’t like the Cardinals are being world beaters on offense as they scored 6 runs in three games. It just so happened the opponents scored 3 runs in 3 games.

So let’s temper our excitement just a bit. The thing we can really get excited about in this series is the pitching. The starters were marvelous and they relievers had a few tough times but found their way out of it.

Let’s hope manager Mike Matheny is a learner and isn’t afraid to bench some of the veterans and begins using certain batters in the same place in the lineup. Jose Martinez is a project in the works but he has a solid bat. Carpenter will need a new position and that may bump Jhonny Peralta completely out of the picture.

AAA- Colorado Springs 13   Memphis Redbirds 4

Chad Huffman smashed a two-run homer in the first inning before adding an RBI single in the fifth. Tommy Pham doubled and scored twice while also driving in a run of his own with a bases-loaded walk in the third inning. Mike Mayers took the loss by allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings of work. He walked two and struck out three.

AA-Springfield Cardinals 5  Midland 3

CF Oscar Mercado extended his 10-game on-base streak right away with a leadoff infield single in the 1st inning. Sandy Alcantara picked up the win with a good state line of 5.2IP/8H/3ER/2BB/4K. Casey Grayson, Jacob Wilson and Oscar Mercado each had two hits.

HighA- Palm Beach 7  Tampa 0

A great pitching performance from Junior Fernandez as he allowed one hit in eight innings of work and struck out six batters to get his first win of the season. Randy Arozarena had three hits in the game as did Darren Serafina with three hits and three runs batted in.

LowA- Peoria Chiefs 15  Cedar Rapids 3

Shortstop Tommy Edman had 4 hits in six at bats including a triple and a double. JR Davis had three hits and Stephan Trosclair hit a home run and had 3 RBI’s in the game. Dylan Carlson had an inside-the-park home run for three runs batted in.
