Cardinals GM

A look at the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team from a GM perspective.

Let’s Ponder the St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals aren’t a very good team. They are fortunate to be playing in the Central Division where no team has been good. But they thing about this is they MUST win this division to get into the playoffs. They just don’t have the horses to pull it off.

Ponder this. The Cardinals really don’t have a star. The Cardinals really don’t have a hitter that can instill a bit of fear into the opposing pitchers head. The Cardinals don’t have much of a pitching staff beyond …… I wanted to say Carlos Martinez but he hasn’t been getting the job done.

The Cardinals are soooo far behind in the quality of major league players. If the players can’t get the job done then it is up to management to make some moves. The decision to kick Mozeliak upstairs was a bit comical. DeWitt doesn’t want to fire Mo as he genuinely likes him. So he promotes him and brings in an assistant GM. Now it will be Mike Girsch’s job to run the team and possibly make any moved regarding the field bosses. The Cardinals are weak in that area. Say what you want but the Cardinals don’t show any fire because Matheny doesn’t. The fire must be lit and re-lit every so often. It has to happen.

It looks like the Cardinals won’t be over .500 at All-Star break. But probably won’t during the season either. Let the kids play in almost all the positions and move any pieces that other teams may feel attracted to. Get it done.
